It's a strange thing to say, I know. But hear me out. When my husband Reid and I married and started a family almost 20 years ago, I had NO CLUE how this whole pregnancy / birth situation was supposed to go down. It's a terribly common scenario: our first son was induced in a hospital with a doctor I did not know and a birth plan that wasn't really honored, and an outcome that was ok, but the weeks that followed were a struggle.
With my next 4 babies, I knew that I wanted something different. I wanted to have all my kids and husband around. I wanted to feel safe and loved by the people that helped me and my baby. Mostly - I wanted to make my own decisions. Before I was a midwife, I was a mom.
Is that a little dramatic? Yes. But I believe it to be true - I believe pregnancy and birth impacts the way we mother, and the way we mother impacts the world. I can list for you all the education and certifications I have. I can show you my license and talk to you about my experience and expertise, but I can also assure you that NOTHING prepared me to be a midwife more than being a home birth mom.
I understand the choices you are facing and the heavy weight of responsibility that comes with intentional parenting. I also deeply understand the joy and reward of walking this path.
In addition to being a midwife, I am a wife to Reid and a mom to our 5 kids in The Woodlands. I am originally from Colorado, but have been in Texas just long enough to consider myself Texan. I really love family game night and have a strong leaning towards autonomy, liberty, empathy, and non-judgement. I love building community and encouraging others. My love language is all of them.
I studied midwifery through the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program, and hold both an LM and CPM credential.
My favorite part of home birth is tucking you in your clean sheets after your baby is born and leaving you alone.
